We were overstaffed today.
Let me repeat that: WE WERE OVERSTAFFED.
No, I don't know how in the hell that happened, either.
The Administrator and Big Boss J came to the back and said that there were five of us AND a med tech, and one had to go.
(Keep in mind that 2 aides and the med tech were on the porch, smoking. The other two aides were nose-deep in their phones. I was wiping down the tables after breakfast was cleared)
I was getting ready to volunteer when CNA Student Barbie looked up from her phone and said "I'll go!. I missed my nail appointment this week because of the holiday."
The look exchanged between TA and BBJ could best be described as a mixture of disgust and...well, disgust.
BBJ asked when was the last time I saw Kent for more than 45 minutes. I actually stopped to think (I was so giddy at the prospect of leaving, I totally blanked on Munchkin Night). TA said "You go."
Cue pouting from CNA Student Barbie. Oh, noes! Her nails! (And why the FUCK is she allowed to sport acrylic nails in this line of work? Several of my coworkers do. It makes no sense to me) (She actually had her lower lip pushed out when she went back to her phone)
TA *did* start to say I could stay if I wanted, but I was gathering my stuff before all of the words were out of her mouth. BBJ laughed so hard, I was afraid she was going to wet herself. Hey, you don't have to tell me twice. If I need to get off the clock, watch me run for it like zombie werewolf vampire nuns with rulers are after me.
(Actually, the only things in that equation that would REALLY make me run are zombies and nuns with rulers. Clearly reading all that Charlaine Harris while watching True Blood is warping my brain)
(More than all that Buffy I've been obsessively rewatching since the 90s. Right?)
So, I have a bonus mostly day off. The spousebeast was just starting to wake up when I got home, so I made him breakfast and [redacted]. Unfortunately, he DOES have to go into work and close tonight, so it's not ideal...but we got extra time! Yay!
I should probably go and get him up for work. Merph. (Yeah, he went into a food coma and I put him back to bed)
I suppose calling his work and telling them that he can't come in because we are seriously understaffed here at The Glass Asylum wouldn't work, huh?

Strange how the others get by with impunity for slacking. Alas, some workplaces are like that.
Hooray for TA ad BBJ for having your back!
i don't know much about the Barbie chick but already i don't like her.

They are not understaffed there either. I often see them sit and chat when the halls are empty and the inhabitants are in their rooms, napping. But they are always busy around lunch or they take them out for walkies when they are up and about. Come to think of it, I've never seen a private mobile phone out in plain view. I think they are banned.
Good on ya for getting to go home! :) And screw her precious nails. :-P
No judgment towards you though about wanting to go home. When I worked retail, I would always loooove going home early.
Glad you got some extra time with SB. ♥
