this might be a good year

Sometimes, a lack of communication is a GOOD thing.

I bought two bottles of cheap champagne (would you expect The Box Wine Queen to drink anything other than Andres?).  Kent bought one (slightly better) on his way home from work.  Santa Pete apparently forgot that the whole point of the grocery run was champagne, and showed up with an even better one.

We were cheerfully making the BEST drinks ever (a scoop of sorbet in a glass of champagne.  I may never go back to mimosas) when there was a knock at the door.

It was Chirp!  Kent's best friend from high school and my partner in crime when it comes to forcing cd choices (he's a Neil Diamond and John Denver fan, too.  We joke that we'd get married if I wasn't so attached to the spousebeast and he actually liked girls).  No phone call.  No advance warning.  Just a bouquet of roses for me (have I mentioned I love this guy?), ANOTHER bottle of champagne, and "I was in the neighborhood."

Because Charlotte and Chapel Hill are so close, right?

Normally, unexpected guests stress me out.  Chirp didn't.  It seemed right.  I just dragged out the extra chair, made him a cocktail, and passed the snacks.  It makes me so happy to see him and Kent.  Those guys really love each other, and I know it was the best thing that could have happened to get rid of a crappy year.

And I got to ring in the new year with my arm thrown around Chirp, swaying back and forth and singing "Sweet Caroline."  Kent and Pete kissed us both, and then flopped on the floor.  Kent grumbled, "Please tell me this isn't a portent for this year..."

I kinda hope it is.  There was friends, fun, stories, music, food, booze....seriously, what more do you need?

Apparently, spiritual guidance.  Paula (the friend I save aluminium for) came by yesterday and asked how I was holding up.  Very sweet, because gods know she has enough troubles of her own.  She brought me a book and said I needed to read it, because it would "calm my soul."

The Bhagavad Gita.  The last time I read that, I was 14.  I was heading back to Bristol because my parents had divorced again.  Someone walked up to me while I was sitting in LAX.  I dug into my pockets for some change for the carnation, and was handed the flower and the book.  I tried to return the book, and it was pressed back into my hand.  "This will be good for you.  Read it."

Apparently, my life is doing reruns.  I guess I'll have to re-read it.

And....Universe?  You can stop fucking with me any time now.  New Year, new person to make their lives "interesting."  I have a list if you need it....

Starting to hear signs of life from the chuckleheads.  Since I'm a wonderful person, I think I shall go make breakfast.  (They're gonna need it)

Happy 2016!  Bright blessings to all!

I have a copy of the Bhagavad Gita. It's been a very interesting read, as well as the Upanishads and the Dhammapada. I own those 3 books which are in a particular series named Classics of Indian Spirituality (Asian Indian, not American Indian.)

I recommend the Upanishads and the Dhammapada, they're VERY enlightening.
