Tonight's the night

Showing amazing restraint, I've managed to wait until tonight to listen to Blackstar.  I've had it since Wednesday, and it's still in the shrink wrap.

I've fondled it more than is probably healthy, but I've stayed strong.  Tonight is The Official Listening Party.  After Jeopardy, of course.  I mean, some things you just don't mess with.

Speaking of restraint, I also passed up buying a turkey today.  I had a set grocery list, a set budget, and a plan.

Fucking things are 49 cents a pound.  Gah!  I almost decided to forego the chicken, but there is NO WAY a 14 pound turkey would thaw by tomorrow.

However....turkey is a traditional Super Bowl party food, right?  Right?  I can serve it with nachos.  Or queso.  Something like that.

Okay, time to spruce up the living room.  It never fails to amaze me how papers accumulate around here.  I think they breed at night.

Happy Friday, everyone!

I would suggest watching the 10 minutes Blackstar video first, and then the other video that goes with lazarus. Watched together with the song and video, they make a lot more sense.

I've watched both, and they paint such a picture. And can't wait to hear the album and put more of the pieces together.

One of the biggest commitments that I've made for this new year is exercising restraint. Believe me, I've had such a problem with that over the years which has caused me much heartache and difficulty.

Which team will you be cheering for in the Super Bowl?

The Budweiser Clydesdales! :)

I don't have a dog in this hunt, so I'll be pulling for the Panthers because geography. And I think the new voter registration laws in NC require you to root for them.

It's such a rich album. So many echoes of the past but also calls to the future...

Blackstar is a masterpiece. Wow.

I'm glad his goodbye was a great one.

Blackstar was absolutely brilliant, upon first listen. I really need to give it a few more listens.

Ahh, Blackstar. It's quite the heavy listen.

Just a shout to say that there's a Bowie orchestral tribute, based on the Glass/Eno "Low" and "Heroes" pieces, by members of the MIT arts society in ten minutes or so on WQXR. Tune in if you can.

If you missed it, I'm writing an article on it - see my journal (private, but I'll accept you).

Thank you! I shall. :)

*nods* Yeah, Super Bowl Turkey. I totally get that! ;)

Papers are the devil spawn. If you figure out a way to make them stop multiplying, please let me know.

I'm totally on board with superbowl turkey.

I've listened to it so many times, and still listen to it. One of his best.

Hope you enjoyed the album?

I really did. There are so many echoes of his entire body of work. An amazing goodbye. <3

Glad to hear it.

Yum, turkey. I can't wait until SB 50.

I have seen the Blackstar music videos, but I haven't heard the whole album yet. Maybe in a few days. There are no music stores in this town.

Have fun; I think it's a great album! :-)

I hope the listening party was a raging success :) I still haven't listened to the album myself, but I watched a couple of the music videos. I'd like to get the album on vinyl if I could, but it's sold out everywhere I've checked.

Watch the video first then the album. It is a grower.

Mmmmm super bowl turkey!! Why not, right?! 49 cents/lb is well worth getting one. A brick of Velveeta costs more! Ha! I think you'd get more mileage from the turkey.

We have rapid spawning papers too. A paper shredder right under the mailbox would probably fix the breeding issue. Ha!

I have not listened to Blackstar yet either.
Please let me know what you think!

Showing restraint can have it's rewards ;-)
