I got a rock

I did, I did!

FRANK has their annual "Sweetheart Trunk Sale" yesterday.  I missed it last year, but Sudie sent me an invite, so I roused Kent the his stupor after The World's Grossest Breakfast (waffles topped with margarine, syrup, a fried egg, and cheddar cheese.  And I'm culpable because I made the damned thing.  BUT HE ASKED!) and we went together.

Now, Sudie Rakusin (http://sudierakusin.com/ if you want to see her stuff.  She's brilliant!) has been a major influence on me since college.  Her art is transformative.  A mentor of mine in college gave all of the members of The Women's Center a copy of The Coloring Book for Big Girls for International Women's Day one year, and it was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.

Fast forward a lifetime, and here I am, dumped on my ass in Chapel Hill.  And she's doing a salon at FRANK (this was shortly after I discovered that The Sun's offices were here.  I really was meant to live here).  She was doing one card draws from her new tarot/saints deck, and I asked for one.

I got The Wanderer.  It fit so well for what I was going through at the time.  I started crying and she didn't flinch.  She just gathered me in the gentlest hug.  I think I fell in love a little that day.

Anyway, one of the things she had for sale were smooth, polished stones with whimsical hearts...they're so pretty!  Kent bought me one as an early Valentine's gift.  I have a piece of her artwork that I can actually hold in my hand!  How cool is that?

It was a very Chapel Hill-y day.  Lunch at Cosmic Cantina, drinks a Blue Horn Lounge, and we stopped by Flyleaf for their member sale so Kent could use the rest of his gift certificate.  He got Bill Smith's book on Crabs and Oysters, and I got a Slaughterhouse Five tshirt.  Very cool.

Today is Superbowl party food making.  Which means, essentially, I make deviled eggs and Kent does everything else.  :)

Happy Sunday, y'all!

Happy Superbowl Sunday!!

That breakfast does sound gross. You are a good partner for making it :-)

She is a great artist. I might have to check out her Tarot deck. I use the Witches Tarot by Ellen Cannon Reed. I like that instead of the reverse, swords are supposed to stand for fire and staves/wands are air, as that's what works for me.

I hope you're enjoying the game. It just got a lot closer! I'm rooting for the Broncos ;-)

You know, for someone who cooks professionally, he has some of the most DISGUSTING eating habits at times. Of course, he thinks the same thing about me, so....

The game was painful. I felt geographically obligated to root for the Panthers, but I *really* can't stand Cam Newton. Yesterday just sealed it (looking bored during the National Anthem, his pouty post-game interview). I really enjoyed the commercials, though.

I just want to know what kind of drugs were involved in the creation of "puppymonkeybaby."

The link doesn't work for me, not sure why. I googled her name, interesting work... I somehow love her 3D work more than paintings. (Like the bird as main image on her facebook page).. It is certainly fabulous to be that close to a favourite artist!

Huh. It works fine for me. I'm sorry.

Her 3D stuff is amazing. It's so surreal that I can see it close up (the level of detail is jaw dropping). And that she actually knows me by name! <3
