I was looking over the menu for the place the spousebeast and I are going for our anniversary (okay, I was also checking the prices so I don't have sticker shock right there at the table), and...jeez, I have the sense of humor of a 15 year old boy.

Apparently, whoever does their menu does, too.  A special Valentine's Day prix fixe menu:  $69 a person.  Yes, I snorfled.  I am so immature.

I've never been to Elaine's before, but I've read about it.  That's been the interesting thing about that subscription to Food and Wine that The Patriarch got us a couple of years back (ran out this month.  We've enjoyed it so much we're re-upping it on payday.  Ten bucks?  For a year?  Yes, please!).  It's become a game to see how many references there are to restaurants/chefs/artisinal products that get written about that are literally in our back yard.

Okay, we usually don't get to GO to those places, but it's still fun to read about.  We manage one of the OMG restaurants every couple of years, so that makes the occasions extra special.  (Even if I annoy the crap out of the spousebeast by doing tons of research beforehand.  Hell, I cross reference grocery circulars with my coupons with my menu plan.  He expects something less when I am going to a place with a national--or at least East Coast--reputation?  I think not)

Oh, lordy...now I have to find a really nice dress, and all of my nice dresses are springy/summery (hey, it's North Carolina!).  Why did we decide to get married in the middle of February again?

Of course, I still have the blouse I wore in my icon.  It's stretch velvet and very pretty.  And WARM!

Well, I've got a week.  I'll come up with something.

(Kent's easier.  He owns one pair of dress pants and two dress shirts--again, one of them is in the picture.  I mentioned the other day he might want something nicer than 10 year old brown cords for his 5-year recognition party in August...now he is set on renting a tux.  Oy.  But that's another story)

I had a big honking Minnesota mosquito in my coffee cup once. My reaction was probably somewhat similar to yours.

Hehe, $69 a person Valentine's Day dinner. Hehehe.

It would make a little more sense if it was 69 for *two* but I snorfled and "huh-huh-huh-huh'ed" too.

Yeah, I mentally made that correction, too. :)

Hope you have a good time!

Well, either that 69 is deliberate or a happy accident. ;)

Happy anniversary! I hope you have a fabulous time!

That $69 has to be on purpose. It just has to be. If it isn't, I don't want to eat at that restaurant, you know?

That's one thing I like about having a suit - sorted. But it's so stressful choosing a shirt!

You know, I did some digging around in the closet in the spare room (the place where you put things you can't/don't wear and are not yet emotionally ready to donate/sell/get rid of).

He still has his tux from his first marriage. What does it say about me that my first thought was "Well, if it still fits...no rental fees!"

I swear, if he wears a tux, I'm going to find a vintage prom dress. ;)

I think using the tux he already has is common sense - as long as it doesn't stink of moth balls!

If he bought a tux - even if it was purchased in high school, he can wear it as long as it fits, and you can wear a fancy dress.

I have those B and B moments from time to time...

Hope you both have a great anniversary! :-)

That special 69 price sounds ominous and yet fun.
Feb. 10th, 2016 04:05 pm (UTC)
Far too pricey for MY pocketbook!
Feb. 10th, 2016 05:56 pm (UTC)
Oh, yeah! That's why we're going during the week. The two of us can get the three course prix fixe menu for BOTH of us for $1 more on the day of our actual anniversary. Adding wine pairing bumps it up to $100 for both of us, if we feel really profligate.

I got a little twitchy, nonetheless, when I was reminded that a) this is waaaay cheaper than the 6 days in DC we'd planned before the hospital screwed him on his time off, b) it "counts" as anniversary and V Day dinner out, since we'll be making food at home for that and c) it's my ability to feed us for $80/mo in groceries that's partially responsible for blowing it out once in a while.

(I think I'm going for the wine pairing. I'm legitimately curious. And I bet the wine comes in bottles with corks and everything! ;) )
