March madness

And, no, I don't mean the kind involving hoops and balls.

Twice this week--TWICE!--we've had a billion cop cars up here at our little ward of weird.  Tuesday, I was enjoying a lovely Benadryl-induced nap when I was disturbed by walkie-talkies and someone screaming "I just needed a fucking glass of water!  Someone get me some water!"

Darryl had "fallen out" in the parking lot.  Melodie saw him from her porch, thought he was dead, and called 911, as one does.  Cue the CHPD, fire department, and the EMTs.

He was livid.  But, seriously dude?  If I see someone unresponsive on the ground, I'm calling 911, too.  That does not make Melodie a busybody (other things do THAT).

Yesterday, Kent and I were coming back from a grocery run (chipotle-lime roasted chicken for supper tonight, and I baked a ginger apple pie for dessert.  Whee!) and ran into Olivia.  Again with a ton of cops, this time with "a bunch of guys dressed like they were auditioning for 'Men in Black,'" looking for Dave of the Unfortunate Nickname (don't ask) and asking all sorts of questions about any political ties he might have (!!!!).  A bit later, when Kent took the recycling out, he saw a very large bald dude with the black suit, sun glasses, the whole cliched shebang, talking to Dave on his porch.

Freaky.  And more than a little disconcerting.

(Also, thanks to all of my friends whose only response was "Political stuff?  Are you sure they weren't looking for you?"  Har dee fucking har har, y'all.)

Well, at least we haven't had anyone stab their ex-husband to death with a steak knife (yet?).  That would be the units down the hill.

The things I'm willing to put up with for marble counters and my nifty new gas stove...

The supper was fantastic! We haven't even touched the pie yet, because we went overboard with gelato and cupcakes after our interviews yesterday.

Do you have a security system?

Marble counters and a nifty new gas stove would be hard to give up. Tell them all to straighten up.

Nope, unless you count the fact that the neighbors either adore us or fear us. :)

Yeah, I am loath to leave my kitchen now. The landlord went on a remodeling spree when his wife got sick, put in the counters, painted all the cabinets...and then the stove went tits up two weeks after the improvements finished.

It's all ridiculously posh for a house that still has linoleum from the 80s. :)

Sounds like an interesting trade off.

O.o

I live in a very, very rural area of southern Scotland, and the most exciting thing that ever happened was when the genuinely lovely man with a schizotypical mental illness went off his meds and the police had to be called to get him to hospital, because he comes from Texas, and had a (possibly loaded) gun.
