March Madness in April

Ya know, I remember a time in my life when I didn't give a damn about college basketball.

And then I moved to Chapel Hill.  And find myself screaming at the television, wearing a Carolina blue shirt that I won playing cornhole on Franklin Street.  Oy.

Looks like I'll be going straight to Bub O' Malley's straight after work tomorrow.  I watched my first championship there in '09, so I guess this is a tradition?  (At least I learned last time, and will be bringing food and a book.  You have to get there ridiculously early to get a decent seat)

I got my settlement check yesterday.  Bye bye, medical bills!  I can't tell y'all how happy I am that this was resolved BEFORE the one year anniversary of almost getting squashed by a truck.(coming up April 15.  Is it wrong that I think I may ask for the day off so I don't have to cross any streets?).  It's so nice to finally put this behind me.  At least the financial part.

Tip Guy was back yesterday, and I got schooled by Yulissa:  "If he's trying to give YOU money...IT'S YOURS.  If a customer hands you a tip personally, it goes in your pocket.  Especially when he's cute like that."

I may or may not have started wearing lip gloss to work.  These things are CLEARLY not related.

You know, if I could keep us afloat on what I make, I could get used to this breadwinner gig.  I know what it's like on the other side of the coin, and it is going to drive Kent nuts in pretty short order, but at the moment, he's doing everything short of meeting me at the door with a martini and my slippers.  It's a nice change.  Not a sustainable change, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

I *have* noticed he does the same thing I did when I wasn't working, and that's let me know every single thing he's done while I've been gone, like he's trying to prove he's not sitting on the sofa and watching Real Housewives of Beverly Hills while eating bonbons (like I'd mind if he did.  Although I WOULD expect him to share the bonbons and quit making fun of me for wanting to be Lisa Vanderpump when I grow up).  It hurts, because I KNOW the drive behind it, and I think it's worse for him. He's trying to justify his existence in the household, and that makes my heart hurt.  But I've been there.  I just hate it for him.

But, oh, it is NICE to come home to my laundry neatly folded on the bed (this girl DOES NOT FOLD.  Ever.  Tshirts are meant to be a little wrinkly.  I also don't mate socks.  Those lazy bastards can hook up on their own, or I'm just going to wear them mismatched) and being asked what I want for supper...with CHOICES.

He's actually a better stay at home partner than I am in some respects.

I do find it funny that he's getting into the whole bargain grocery shopping thing (he's not couponing.  Yet.  It will come in time.  *maniacal laughter*).  After all the grief I used to get...

Happy Sunday, y'all!

Hope you win! And yes, stay-at-home guilt is a thing, even if you're taking care of kids and making all the food from scratch and.... Yes, it's real.

I like that it's working right now, though. ESPECIALLY the folding.

You are extremely lucky with a parter like that. I've seen it more than once that (mostly male) partners suddenly stay home and do none of the work that their partner always did *while still working*.

I don't really know if J would start cleaning or cooking on his own if he were at home. He surely doesn't when he's on vacation and I am not.

I know it's hard though, too. I wish you both the dream jobs of your lives!!!

That settlement check must be a big relief.

Ah yes... I've been both the breadwinner and stay at home partner as well :)
