Apr. 24th, 2016

It's my day off!  Whee!

And that's why I was up at a quarter to five.  My circadian cycles HATE me.

It's probably a good thing, though, because I was able to dispatch the troops early.  Olivia, Melodie, and I asked the property managers if we could make a little garden plot for Olivia's daughter, Lily.  Lily's got a laundry list of developmental/physical issues, but she loves to watch things grow.  Since Olivia is getting to spend more  time with her, we thought it would be cool for there to be a little space for her to see every time she comes here.

We talked it up a bit, suggesting it would be cool to have a little community garden.  We planted seeds with Lily.  We bought a cute little plastic picket fence so the yard person didn't mow over it (he's VERY thorough.  I lost a bunch of transplanted ramps because they weren't clearly marked as "NOT WEEDS.  DO NOT WHACK.")  We got spinny pinwheel things at Dollar Tree.  We planted pansies in every corner, because I'd said pansies were lucky.  And they remind me of Granma and Great-Granma.

I made a sign that says "Lily's Garden."

So I got up at an hour that no one should on their day off.  Fed the birds (and squirrels.  And chipmunks). grabbed an iced tea, and headed out to check on the garden.

Trashed.  The plants were even pulled up.  Everything broken.

Someone(s) destroyed it.  Why?

Luckily, Melodie was already on her porch with her cig and tumbler of wine (not judging. Actually, I adore her.  She wears floppy straw hats, housedresses with no bra, and sandals year round. And she always has at least two young guys renting space in her apartment.  I think I want to be her when I grow up and face my "long, lonely widowhood."  Minus the cigarettes).  I told her what had happened.  She swore in ways I didn't even know existed, stormed inside, and started giving them a list of what they needed to go buy at Lowe's NOW.

Cue the 20 something guys scrambling for clothes and running to do her bidding.

I REALLY want to be Melodie when I grow up.

We have got the garden looking somewhat back to normal.  I had to make a new sign, and it's currently drying (she wants to be Elsa, so I did a "Frozen" theme for this one.  Kind of ironic if you're gardening. Do you know how many sparkly bits that involves and how long weatherproof varnish takes to dry?  I sincerely hope you don't).

I cannot tell y'all how angry this makes me.

But things are fixed (okay, we now have a few "cheater" plants.  The chives sprung up overnight!  Who knew!?!?!?).  And Lily will be happy.  And that's the important part.

In happier news, I'm counting down the days until the Felicia Day reading.  :)  WEDNESDAY!  I haven't figured out what I'm going to wear yet.  I am supposed to get my Loot Crate that afternoon (yes, that was my reward for not killing anyone during my first full month at work), so maybe I'll get a shirt that is appropriate.

My SiL got me a bootleg Dr. Horrible tshirt when she was working in Guatemala.  Maybe?

This is important, because the show isn't sold out and it sounds like there might be chances to snap a pic.  Yes, for once in my life, I'm stressing (slightly) about what to wear.

Yeah, I'm weird.   ANNND...I'm off!

I'm glad they replaced things, but still...
I think you have every right to be angry about that!

I got it today!!!!!!! And I got home early (never ask someone to volunteer who has hand raising reflexes like Hermoine Granger. Big Boss got "I need someone to volunteer to go h...."before my hand was in the air.

The shirt is AMAZING!!!! I'm wearing it tonight to the Felicia Day reading. :)

If it was a who, who would destroy a garden? That is very disturbing.

Melodie sounds cool.
