I may be part Hobbit

I am highly motivated by the promise of food.  Specifically free food.  And I think management has figured that out.

I don't know what crack smoking manatee is making the schedule, but we only had two FOH people scheduled today.  ON A FRIDAY.  Exams are starting.  This is not a good thing.

Then there was the fact that I was scheduled until 2.  M was scheduled until 3.  And then it was only two managers until 5, where they got one FOH and one BOH person.

I told Third in Command when he walked past me with schedule in hand and a furrowed brow "Don't even ask."  (He does these drive-by requests.  It's sneaky smart.  He'll be on his way to the office before you realize that you just agreed to sell your soul on Franklin St. for a bag of candy corn and the honor of working a double)  Big Boss asked if I could stay until 3, which was reasonable and makes me the hero....even though I knew I was probably not going to touch my sidework until two at least.  If I'm stuck, I might as well look like a team player.

[How to survive in food service, lesson 186:  Volunteer for the shit you'll end up doing anyway.  It makes you a hero]

Long story short, I took one for the team and ended up staying extra late to do dishes...because I checked the clock and realized I'd get my meal comped if I just did ALL THE DISHES.  (Ugh).

As Big Boss was ringing up my meal, she grinned and said "I know why you stayed.  You knew how long that would take."

She also had to turn over a $10 store gift card because I made the upselling incentive (okay, so that was at least in part thanks to our driver whom I've gone skinny dipping with, but who can't use a tumbler with unlimited drink refills for 99 cents?).

So, yeah.  Motivated by food.

I had another point, but it got lost somewhere.

I'm the same way. I'll do all sorts of silly things for free food.

I think you're very pragmatic. But then I am motivated by food (and money) too.

Even though I have been long gone from The Biz, those memories remain.

There were three different jobs I took in college just because they gave meals as well as pay.
So, it is good motivation!

I have to admit that the 70% discount is a heavy motivator, too. There's something to be said for being able to bring home food for the both of us for under $6 if I don't feel like cooking.

Food seems a sensible motivator to me.
