So I was proposed to seven years ago yesterday.  I came home early from Foster's (and interrupted Kent telling his mom his neferious plans for the afternoon).  I was hoping to crack open a beer and hopefully make it to the bed before we tore each others' clothes off.

I got a candlelit lunch instead.

It's been a long enough time now that I can say "WTF, dude!?!!?"  It's July.    In North Carolina.   Minestrone by candle light when it's 98F.  Minestrone from a package that I scammed from work because it  was out of date enhanced by chiles you grabbed from work because you thought I'd like it extra spicy...which were also slightly on the iffy side.

(It was damn near inedible.  I have never told him that)

We sat down to lunch and I bitched about my day.  He had the day off and I asked what he'd done.  He'd been doing laundry and rearranging the cabinets and watching a documentary about Meatloaf.

Next thing I know, he's on one knee and asking "Will you love me?  Will you love me forever?"

The ring came later, at Dragon*Con.  We found it at a dealer's booth, then took it to have Shepherd Book (Ron Glass) bless it for us.  We have a signed picture from the session wishing us nuptial blessings.

Nerd, nerd, nerdy nerds.

I guess why I'm rambling like this is that it dawned on me that I have lived with Kent longer than I was married the first time.  I've actually been with Kent longer than Derk.  It's like I've broken some sort of fairytale curse.

When do I get my fucking gorram tiara?  It's broken.  I am no longer the victim of the desired and denied fairytale.  I stand straight, look at you sideways, and expect my due.

Life isn't bad anymore.  It is rough and tumble.  But there are days where I feel like a shame.  I'm 43 and shouldn't be a register jockey who sleeps on a second hand couch and falls asleep watching reruns of No Reservations.

But the curse is broken.  The sad part is the fact that I seem to be the only one who can see that.

But I know and will always have this
