Jan. 22nd, 2017

I managed to make it through my first day at work without Ms. D without crying...much.  While I was waiting to clock in (I cab it in to work on Saturdays with Kent to save money, which means I end up hanging out in the break room for an hour or more before my shift), he very solemnly brought me the tag from her tray, asking if I wanted to put it on my grandparents' altar.

[If that sounds overly weird, when he lost his first resident (she was known by the nickname Ladybird and he bought oranges because, towards the end, that was all she would eat), he brought me the tag from her tray...and that's where it is.]

I am going to give my coworkers the benefit of the doubt and assume that THEY assumed that Kent had told me, but no one said ANYTHING to me.  In sharp contrast, a few residents took me aside and said they were sorry, asked me if I was okay, told me how much the loved Ms. D.  Even Bev, who is largely nonverbal. walked up to me and gave me a hug when I first came in, then spent the rest of the day walking up to me, making her sad face, and patting my shoulder.

I hate that I missed the Women's March, but I am so proud that my SiL Robin went to the one in DC.  Okay, I'm a little jealous, too, but....hey, work calls.  And since I'm just doing weekends, I should keep my hours until I get a second job.

Aside from February 5, which I've requested off because Kent and I are going to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the DPAC!!!!!   We mutually decided that the event at Castle Mucholloch had too many moving parts (costumes, train tickets, hotel room, transportation between the hotel and the site of the festivities), and so he very sneakily got tickets to the show.

And by stealthily, I mean he asked very obvious questions about seats, days, times, whilst I pretended he didn't have DPAC's website pulled up on his computer.  ;)

I'm so excited!  Now I just have to figure out what to wear...

*hugs* Your residents seem like such sweet people. I'm glad they at least understand. <3

I don't think the tag thing is weird. Some people are just special. They seem to belong to you (and vice versa).

I am glad your residents understood.
