Or, a new one for the "Oh, are you kidding me!?!?!?" file.

I do my shopping between two grocery stores because I am cheap, anal retentive about prices, and consider it a fun challenge.  I cross reference the ads, collate my coupons, make lists...

Don't worry.  It disturbs the spousebeast, too.  I don't see the big deal about walking three blocks with a store ad and a ton of coupons.

So I am walking from Store A to Store B when I hear a beep and "Hey! Hop in! I'd recognize that hair a mile away!"

(Note to self: be prepared to always be recognized with waist length purple hair.  I tend to feel invisible because I am what society considers middle aged)

I did not know that Happy Acres takes the AL people grocery shopping at Store B on Tuesdays (I need to bring up that Thursdays would be better, because people 60+ get 5% off their order).

Guess who got to tour guide a shopping trip while answering why I was putting every single item in my cart? (It wasn't judgey. These residents know Kent and I live together and some seem genuinely curious what we do when we aren't there, especially where food is concerned).

I turned down the ride home because a) I don't want the work van person knowing where I live, because it would make coming to pick me up waaaaay too easy and b) I decided I need vodka, and I REALLY didn't want to lead a group through the ABC store.

Oy. And I say oy again.

Hee, one of my exes did that and it drove me nuts 😀 More the fact that he spent another hour grocery shopping for a net saving of maybe 5 DMarks. Plus, he drove there with the car, losing another 2 DM in gas. That ends up with a really low hourly rate.

Nice of them to take you along though.

Oh, it drives the spousebeast BONKERS if he's with me, which is why grocery shopping is now my domain. (Also, it's cheaper if I do it myself. He walks into a store and immediately finds $80 stuff we don't need)

I don't mind the time it takes. I plan for it, and I get that weird sort of pleasure buying food that I guess comes from growing up hungry most of the time.

If this is not *work* for you but fun, it works out. Like I don't calculate the time I need for clothes shopping in my head because I like doing it. Whereas for groceries, it seems like work to me. Well, it did with the ex. With J it works fine and I like shopping together. But we both don't want to go to two markets for one trip.

With the ex I told him it was his job if he wanted to do it this way. So we always went separately. But eventually we went "separately" anyways because of this any many other discrepancies ;-)

I'm betting one of the resaons the spousebeast and I are still together is because he leaves the grocery shopping to me.

I know. The people who are on our assisted living side of things can come and go as they please, so I occasionally run into them when I am off work and out and about. It's weird.

The thought of you with a pack of elderly AL residents trailing behind you in the ABC store is probably one of the most delightful things I can conceive. XD I'm also sure they would be highly opinionated on your vodka choices.

I'm a coupon/flyer/knows-where-everything-is-cheaper fiend. Mom hates that I'm driving now, since I'll go to three different stores to save money. But, she does like the savings, since it means more book money. XD

There are a couple of residents I would LOOOOVE to have cocktails with.

And I have been having happy mental exercises trying to figure out who would buy what. :)

Are we invoicing Happy Acres for tour guide services?

I should.

I've been contemplating the idea of asking if I can be scheduled for 4 on Fridays and Sundays (when we usually don't have coverage from 3-4) in exchange for getting off at 2:30 on Saturdays (so I can get the 2:45 bus instead of waiting for the 4pm). Maybe I should angle for a few hours on Tuesday to help K on this little weekly trip.

Poor girl is so out of her depth. As activities director, she's basically a glorified camp counselor on the surface. That's what she signed up for.

Ain't what she got.

i wouldnt say i'm anal about it, but i totally clip coupons and watch the ads very carefully. i like seeing how much money i saved at the bottom of the grocery store receipt. more power to you!

I love that Harris Teeter not only lists what you saved on that purchase n the receipt, it tells you your savings for the whole YEAR. That makes me happy in ways that are at best irrational.
