happy dance of day offy-ness

Sometimes, my Hermoine Granger tendencies pay off.  I THOUGHT I was going to have to go in for a CEU (continuing education unit) today, but I checked where I am on my job requirements and I am DONE for the year.  Yes, it is only March.

M told me that I am the ONLY one of the people in my hiring class who is totally finished.  AND I have somehow managed to amass 3 TIMES the minimum required hours on the floor (go figure) so...um...yeah, chances for a raise with my review are "highly favorable."

I was actually planning on going anyway, but it is cold and rainy and icky and I DON' WANNA! Besides, I have to go in on my other day off tomorrow for a mandatory staff meeting, so it's kind of nice to have a day where I am NOT at Happy Acres.

Okay:  truth time.  It's kinda nice to just have a no pants day.  I've got my fleece-lined leggings, my Cirque Du Soleil sweatshirt (thank you, Santa Pete!), and my fuzzy socks.  There are books to be read.  There are household chores to be ignored.  And I have snacks!  (Kent made a big batch of mango habanero salsa that just keeps getting better and better.  But it does need to be eaten.  And I am just the person for the job!  I've got a massive stack of corn tortillas, a bunch of oil, and sea salt.  What's better than homemade chips and salsa?)

Of course, I talk about no pants days like I don't go to work every day in scrubs, which really feels like going to work in pj pants.  Actually, my hot pink scrub pants WERE pj pants to begin with.  Kent bought them for me when he was working at UNC Hospital and I was still in food service.  :)

Sunday was a nightmare.  We were short staffed, so I got pulled back to MC (okay, so THAT was nice.  I hate to play favorites, but those are my people). One relief person showed up on time; the other was STILL not there when I left an hour and a half after my scheduled leave time.

And L said she was going to check up front to see what was going on about our relief...and never came back (and yet she still has a job.  *sigh*).

On the up side, when I got to go home, I was stopped from taking a cab (no buses on Sunday, so I *pay* for the privilege of going to work) and got to ride The Party Bus (tm).  Woo-hoo!  Extra pocket money for me!

Okay, so it's technically the "company van" that we use to take residents to appointments, church, activities, etc.  Somewhere along the line, though, someone (probably me, honestly) declared it The Party Bus (tm).

One of the visiting nurses yesterday told me we're his most fun stop, because "there is always something going down around here.  Never a dull moment.  It's great!"

Er, thanks, Doogie Howser.  Wanna try a full shift sometime?  *evil grin*

Actually, yesterday was a cakewalk.  I got to accompany a resident on a dental appointment, so I essentially signed him in, answered a few questions, and spent 3 and a half hours sitting on my ass, reading magazines.  And getting paid for it.  I didn't get to clock out and take lunch, but we have two residents out and it was chili dog day, so I just snagged one of theirs and wolfed it down while doing paperwork.

I got in 9.25 hours all on the clock (yes, relief was late again!), and essentially all I did was pass breakfast, clean up lunch, do one epic diaper change, and fill out paperwork.  And discover eleventy billion cute new things to do with Mason jars, a couple hundred speedy weeknight suppers, and cute new fashions for Spring 2014.

Not a bad day, all told.  Kent was expecting me to come home homicidal due to the hour and the rain (I forgot my umbrella.  AGAIN), but I even had good bus luck.  What's not to like?

Oh, the other good news!  We have someone else making the schedule while J is on vacation (or suspension.  There are some rumors going 'round.  Then again, there always are.  I try not to listen to them).  I overheard someone asking to get her weekends switched (let's just say that there are politics going on right now that is starting to make this place seem like Amber meets Assisted Living), so I thought I'd ask if I could get a Monday or Thursday off occasionally.  Ya know, I have this weird thing about spending time with my husband.  So I asked if we could maybe juggle my schedule a bit in one direction or the other.  I doubt it will be permanent, but I have next Monday AND Thursday off!  And my hours haven't gotten cut!

What will probably happen is one day one or the other will be a weekly thing. I can live with that.  I really just want one day with the spousebeast.

The last time I made noise about my schedule, J busted me back to weekends only (which lasted until she realized we have no people.  Or, at least, none who show up consistenly, on time, and actually do their jobs).  If J doesn't come back from vacation, or suspension, or whatever, I won't cry.  She's really vindictive if you don't share her lack of work ethic.

Tomorrow is payday!  YAAAAY!!!!  Which means I get to buy my ticket to see Alan Cumming in April!  I am all swoony at the thought.

And so this post isn't all work related, have a pic of my eldest sporting the latest in hipster beard decoration.  Seriously, I have no idea what is going on here.  His brother raises chickens and ducks, but I am just as confused as Sparky the Cat:
