"You're pretty, but you're mean."

That's the opinion of one of the residents today.  Every day at lunch, we have to go through the same drill:  "No, Mr. C, you can only have water until you've gotten your blood sugar checked.  I'm sorry you're last in line, but I did come back and call you three times."  I  then turn around to start passing plates. "And get your hands off my beverage cart!

Wanna piss off this PCA?  Touch my beverage or snack cart.  Just TRY to steal something.  I was a kitchen manager in a jail; those dudes were way stealhier than y'all, and I always busted them.

But pretty, yet mean?  Kinda put a spring in my step for the rest of the day.  I LIKE it!

Yesterday was payday, and I was over the moon over the figure on my check...until I got home and discovered that Kent worked fewer hours and made $8.62 more than I did.  Okay, he makes more per hour as kitchen manager, but...GAH!  I know it's apples and oranges, but *just once* I'd like to win the paycheck competition.

'Sokay, though.  i'm taking some of my fabulous wealth and taking myself on a Carrboro date Tuesday or Wednesday (that whole every other weekend off like everyone else thing?  Yeah, "it may take a while, because I'm trying to figure out how to rearrange the schedule."  I'm going to have to get back to my laid back attitude about midweek "weekends."  I was really pretty chill with it finally--not having a weekend off for four months will do that to a person--but the brief promise of getting to do t'ai chi at the Ackland and/or attend my writer's group again hit the reset button and I'm back to being bitter and angry when I hear peoples' weekend plans).  It's the perfect weather to go sit out in the yard and Weaver Street Market, write a bit, and people watch.

[ETA: Kent just got his schedule emailed to him--again, I am jealous--and he is off Wednesday!  Okay, so I'll go on my solo date Tuesday]

And I need to remember to bring the &^%^&* camera.  I've gotten out of the habit, and have missed some great shots.  At least I remembered to get some pics of Chapel Hill Comics before they closed forever on Friday.  *sob*

I also feel guilty as hell, because I walked away with a ton of cool stuff for *cheap*  In the final days, trades went from 75% off to buy 2, get 1 free to $2 each.  The obvious stuff was gone (Sandman and stuff like that), but I found a bunch of stuff I/we didn't know we needed.  :)

We also scored an invite to the farewell party at The Baxter tomorrow night.  Work on Monday be damned!  I am going to raise a glass to one of my favorite places and maybe challenge Cute Lumberjanes Girl to a game of pinball.  And hopefully win one of the final CHC tshirts in the raffle.  *crosses fingers*

[Note to self:  if there is a place you love, that is intrinsic to your story in whatever weird way, BUY THE DAMN THING.  The tshirt, the coffee mug, the souvenir thong....]

Currently watching the Carolina/Oregon game on mute while listening to Randy Newman's 'Faust.'  Kent found it recently in a used cd pile in some dusty shop.  Hey....the two things are related (sorta)!  James Taylor is on the album.  Works for me.

It's weird to watch these boys on television.  Before McAlister's closed, I waited on members of the team all the time. I can tell you everyone's favorite sandwich and the ones who got teased for drinking mango green tea and the ones who looked like they won the lottery when they got free dessert.  These guys are the same age as my kids.  I feel a weird kind of motherly pride watching them play.

(Aside from the one who, despite my allergy to younger men, I would consider taking up the mantle of cougar over.)

And to think I almost dumped Kent's ass over March Madness once.  After almost a decade in Chapel Hill, I kind of get the weird superstitions surrounding the game.

Speaking of, I should go pay attention....

Pretty but mean is a good way to be!!! There are a few guys like that in politics., one is becoming a priest and I feel like his mama and say, "There's Joe and he is going to be a priest." He went from a cute guy to looking scarily very preistlike.

I know what you mean about the paycheck competition. The only time I got close was when I worked at the college, but I got paid once a month, he got paid twice. Mine always looked great until you doubled his. Oh, well... at least it goes into the same bank account at the end of the day.

I'm sorry that you are losing your comic shop. I imagine that I will feel the same way if we ever lose Al's. it's been a fixture here for years. Have a good time at your party.

Awesome! Though, really, you're only mean because you won't let him get away with stuff.

How sad that the comic book store closed! Although the lure of cheap comics is hard to refuse...
