Happy weekend to me!

First of all, my boys won.  Go Heels!

(Yes, I know.  But, damnit, I used to wait on those guys!  I honestly think this is more of a surrogate mom thing than a fan thing)

Also...weekend(ish)!  And my relief was actually on time for once!

I managed to skirt the downpour while catching various buses.  It started to pour the minute I walked into Harris Teeter, but I just used that as an excuse to hail a cab home.  And if you are taking a cab, why not buy all the heavy shit in one run?  Especially if it is on sale.

So, yeah. Restocked for the zombie apocalypse.  Which seems especially appropriate after watching The Walking Dead for the first time Sunday night.  I now understand why some of my friends are obsessed.  They were playing it at The Baxter during the CHC farewell party, and I was rivited.

So rivited that I managed to lose to the sousebeast on the Game of Thrones pinball machine not once but TWICE.  *hangs head in shame*  My godfather would be so ashamed.

[My godfather had (er, has) a weird take on his duties, which I guess fits for someone who was thisclose to being a Jesuit priest.  And, yeah, he's the reason why Scholastica got thrown into the mix of my obscenely long name.  My uncle Ernie once suggested he was a "cultural tour gude" rather than a spiritual one.  All I know is that, when other kids in my class were doing Catechism study, I was playing pinball and learning that it is perfectly acceptable to like the Beatles and the Stones, but you damn well better be able to articulate WHY. He's always been big on the why.  It wasn't until I was much older that I realized what a valuable skill he was teaching me]

The party was both wonderful and sad.  I hadn't realized that Ryan (the owner)'s birthday was THE WEEK they closed.  Talk about suckitude.  One of the staff members who "bakes a little" made him a Tardis birthday cake, so we sang and he blew out candles and everyone got a free round (I've got to Google Scarlet Witch and find out what is in it.  All I know is that it is quite tasty and has a kick like a mule.  And is named after a comic I adore).

Mad props to someone who makes an Italian cream cake THAT good and make it look like a proper Tardis. I wish I'd brought my camera.

It was good to sit and talk with Daneke (Ryan's wife), to get a chance to tell her how much it meant to me that she put up with me hanging around for hours when I ended up here.  She listened to me, let me cry, occasionally fed me while I was trying to get my bearings.

The most amazing thing was that we were given the rainbow sign that was in the front window that has the Chapel Hill Comics logo and "All Are Welcome Here."  I'd asked last Thursday and Ry said he would make more since so many people wanted them.  He forgot.

He gave me the one from the shop as we left.

The one from the shop.  The one that he hurried up and got made when HB2 passed.  I know I am a huge dork, but this means *so much* to me.  It is a part of when my town stood up and said "Fuck you and your laws.  Y'all means ALL, stupid mothafuckers."  It's a piece of history.

And it is now the first thing you see when you walk in the door.  Consider it a mission statement for the house.  I need to get the picture of the Pride flags on Franklin street blown up and framed, too.

I need to do a lot of things.  However, I think they shall be scrapped in favor of a trip to Carrboro.

that's great news about getting that sign. How so very cool is that. It's sad, but at least you got to be involved in the celebration. *hugs*

Thanks. I am going to miss that place. Thre were days where I just hated everything in life and I could walk in there on my way to the bus and it would all be okay again.

We had a place like that in Reno. Then one day, everything was different. The owners sold and never said a word to any of us. I've never felt the same about any place since then.

I was so happy to hear it got overturned. I felt so proud of my state again in that moment.
