Uh-huh.  New schedule is up.

I work seven out of the next SIXTEEN days.  SEVEN.  How is that not cutting my fucking hours?

The truly scary thing is that there is only one other PCA who has more hours (8 days), and she works the AL side.

This is fucking bullshit.

It's not sustainable (especially since I still have to work every other weekend, which costs $36 in cab fare/rideshares  EVERY FUCKING WEEKEND I WORK).  Additionally, they still expect someone to go home after lunch....but that person still has to take the mandatory hour break.  So I'm looking at going from 80+ hours every 2 weeks to potentially 50 if I'm lucky.

If we could afford it, I'd probably be okay with it, at least for the short term.  As it stands right now, I am mentally scripting my blistering exit speech and combing the help wanted ads.

I'm off Tuesday (and Thursday.  And Friday).  I think I'll go sit at Panera until they hire me.  They're advertising for a shift leader and, oh, gee....guess who has done that for a store that was hella busier?    In New Jersey.  Overprivileged, hungover college kids have NOTHING on people doing the commute into The City.   I even have my badge thingie.  Maybe I should just put that on the counter in lieu of an application and offer to undercut the next most qualified applicant by a nickle an hour.

Am I the only one with a checkered job history who keeps trophies in the form of nametags, shirts, aprons?  I mean, other than Kent?  We've been trying to cull clothes for donation and...jeez...the number of restaurant tshirts we both have.  I'm setting some aside to make a tshirt quilt.  It would be like a patchwork resume of both of our careers in Chapel Hill.

[I DID find a manager polo from Starbucks with the old logo.  I was never a manager.  Kent asked me and I had to think and...oh...um.  "My shirt got messed up, so he gave me this to wear home."  Said mess might or might not have occured in the backseat of his car during break.  Yes, everything Anthony Bourdain says about the food industry  is true]

The hardest part about doing this closet purge is getting rid of stuff I know I'll never wear...but Granma bought for me.  Shit, some of the stuff went straight from my birthday box to the closet with the tags still on (she never quite understood that there are not any Cato's anywhere near me, so I couldn't exchange them).  It's hard.

I *do* love that there isn't a single thing that doesn't have a sale tag on it.  The women in my family don't pay full price for ANYTHING (except my little sister, and I'm still convinced she's an alien my mother found under hemlock shrub somewhere).  I may just cut the tags off and save them.  Is that weird?

Oh, hell...it's me.  Of course that's weird.

Back to the job search.  If I start talking about posting on craigslist as an English tutor or professional caregiver, PLEASE stop me.  I've done the English tutor ad before and...I don't own the wardrobe for it, apparently.  Wish me luck!

yes, i think it's new job time
if the Panera is a good situation maybe a little talk with the manager (with badge along) even before you ask for an application?

and maybe a little "magic" also couldn't hurt?
will keep you in mind

i have a collection of photo badges and nametags from everywhere i worked that gave them. even though it involved lying and saying i lost them to get a duplicate so i could keep one.

this cutting of your hours, are other people replacing you or are they just cutting people across the board?

They are cutting EVERYONE. I have a feeling that the people they are plugging holes with, so to speak, are on the bottom rung of the wage ladder.

And guess who got cut in the middle of her lunch break today? Yeah. AND I have to go back after 2pm to pick up my check. Grrrr...

That just sucks. I hope you only have to sit in a Panera lobby for an interview.

Okay, that's just total bullshit. Not reducing your hours? Total lie. Hope you find something better soon!

That sucks how they've cut your hours like that :/ do you know if it'll be ongoing like that?

I don't keep anything from old jobs other than a paper record so that I don't forget the dates and such. Name tags, clothing, ick, I want it all gone when I'm done with the place lol.

Good luck finding something better!

My hub still has one gray, (ugly) polo short that his grammy sewed up. He cannot and will not part w it since she sewed it. I have one pr of gym shoes from 1978: the last thing my grandma bought for me while she had a sound-enough mind and body. I will never part w them!

T-shirt quilt is an excellent idea! I've done a number of them, and it sounds like a perfect way to use, and save, those restaurant shirts.
