Charlottesville, 1985.

It was a six hour bus ride from Bristol.  Mrs.  Rollins (our drama teachers's wife) made two HUGE coolers of snacks so we wouldn't starve.  Jackie had a cd boombox, so WE controlled the music.  We strung up our trenchcoats to block off the last 5 rows to keep out the uncool people (read:  my little sister).

I still have the notes passed between me and the guy who would become my boyfriend...and then my fiance...and then the guy in my life known as John the Gay Journalist (I DO have a type.  They either look like Alan Rickman or they're gay.  Or both).

It was such an amazing time.  We went to the mall and Jackie bought Black Celebration by Depeche Mode. We went to Plan 9  Records and scored stuff we thought we could only get by squandering allowances and skipping lunch at school and babysitting for teachers and paying postage from England.

Okay, so we didn't win the competition, but I got the makeout session of my life.  And came home with stars in my eyes.  And great music.

That was my Charlottesville.  Not this.

It was one of the best weekends of my life. We had so much fun, and were out of our tiny podunk town...WITH NO PARENTS!

And we went to the mall. *sigh* Yeah, we were rebels.

Sigh... I never had that option. My mum was one of those parents who chaperoned...
