Livin' the single gal life

The spousebeast is off for Brokeback Fantasy Football Draft-palooza (now with Tiki Bar!  Seriously, how do these guys find these places?).  Now it's all fruity cocktails, magazines, and Meryl Streep movies for me!

Santa Pete wanted to meet up for bagel pizzas last night, but he decided I shouldn't have to cook, so we met up for food and cocktails at Lucha Tigre.  We realized how long it had been since we'd been there:  the menu has changed drastically (read: the lamb dish he always gets is no longer available) and our favorite bartender is now hostessing.  And my favorite waiter is now in law school...at Duke (traitor).

We've decided we need more platonic date nights. I see many of these coming up during football season.

The food is still amazing, though.  As was the company.

I still seem to be unable to remember to turn off the &^^$%& alarm clock, so I've been up since the asscrack of dawn.  At least I've gotten a head start on my cooking projects.  I did a volunteer stint at St. Joe's yesterday because they were short staffed, and had totally forgotten that working Fridays means the volunteers rack up after everyone has been taken care of (we don't operate on weekends, so a lot of stuff doesn't carry over).  So I have a TON of fresh basil that needs to be whizzed up with oil and divided for the freezer (less the stuff I am holding back for my garlic naan pizza tonight), four loaves of sourdough to be turned into bread crumbs and  croutons, plums and nectarines that are going to become part of a cobbler, and an embarrasement of riches in terms of tomatoes and peppers, both sweet and hot. ( Oh, and cute little hummus and pita packs which means my lunch next week is covered.   Apparently, none of our people like hummus, because we had THREE CASES left.  Thank you, Whole Foods! We sent two cases over to the shelter, and divided up the remaining case.  As I was walking home, one of the guys I know from the street wanted to know why we gave them "this hippie ass shit!")

Strangely, this is how I relax.

I also did a thrift store run ysterday.  PTA Thrift was calling my name.  I was hoping that meant there was season 2 of Glee or season 5 of True Blood waiting for me.

There was a cute Tinker Belle scrub top...in an XS.  Yeah, that ain't fitting over the girls (which I hate, because it was SO CUTE!  And purple!)

What did I find?  A danged Steelers ballcap.  Brand new.  There were three and all still wrapped, so I guess they, er, fell off a truck.

So the spousebeast got to go off in a shiny new hat.  Clearly, my thrifting spidey-sense needs recalibrating.

Going from bartender to hostess seems like a backwards move...like kind of a demotion.

Garlic naan pizza sounds awesome. And cobbler is always good, though I have to say I have never had a cobbler with plums or nectarines in it before. But I love nectarines. And now I really want to go buy some nectarines! Those need to go on the grocery list ASAP.

She was a daytime bartender. Apparently, nighttime hostess gets tipped out better. Who knew?

The cobbler was good, but could have used a little more brown sugar because the nectarines were a little underripe. Made up for that with vanilla ice cream. :)

What Meryl Streep movies? I watched She Devil a few short months ago. I heart the eighties.

I was up at four today. I did sleep in on Labor Day though.

Julie and Julia and Mamma Mia! I never get tired of those.

Your sense of relaxing seems very similar to mine.

Hope your hubby had fun at his Tiki bar! :

Oh, yes. Yes, he did. Could have lived without seeing some of the photographic evidence, though. ;)

*love* fresh basil. Didn't plant any this year, sadly. I had a ton of bread and just made herbed bread crumbs (which can be frozen), parmesan croutons and a yummy bread pudding. (I put the recipes for those on my FB page, by the way.)
