Almost got choked out by a resident yesterday.  I was trying to make her bed, and ended up getting thrown to the ground, kicked, punched, and ultimately choked.

Exactly how I wanted to start my weekend off: incident reports, police reports, and a trip to the ER.

I feel like one massive bruise.  Do NOT underestimate little old ladies, y'all.  Just sayin'  And don't make someone else's bed.  Ever.

So, of course, I woke up at 3 something this morning, feeling like I was unable to breathe.  Full on panic attack, because I thought I had to go in today.

Thankfully, I'm off the weekend.  And probably Monday, too, because the spousebeast says I'm not going back before I see a lawyer.  Normally, I don't let him boss me around, but I think I might actually listen to him this time.  Mark it on your calendars.

In better news, Kent and I still did the grocery shop, so Seafood and Rum Punch Fest is ON for tonight!  We've invited Santa Pete over for spicy shrimp cocktail and lobster tails (you just can't pass up a seafood sale like that.  And on payday, no less).   As the injured party, I get to pick the music/movie.  Suggestions?

Geez, who knew little old ladies had that level of violence in them. Was she known to be violent?

Oh, you'd be surprised. Normally, it's just scratching and hitting. This is a whole new level (at least in my experience).

the words from the Chorus Line song come to mind

kiss the day goodby
the sweetness and the sorrow

it begins to look if you add it up
buses - management - bruises
it may not be worth it
surely an a number one barrista

Yeah, I think Spousebeast has the right of this one. Work at least needs to cover all the medical and give you paid time off to recover.

OMD (the D stands for Deities)! Did you ever find out why she choked you? I send healing vibes for your body and mind!

Granny from Beverly Hill Billies taught me to be aware that old women can kick your ass, even if she was portrayed by someone in her mid thirties.

Glad that you're off this weekend :)

I agree with the spousebeast. Don't go back to work until you have a lawyer.

I was in her room. The sheets hadn't been changed in close to three months because she doesn't like people on her turf....but the state is coming in sometime soon, and we cannot have a resident sleeping in filth, even if that is what she wants.

My damned co-irkers were supposed to keep her occupied while I made the change, but she gave them the slip.

There was a resident at my mom's place that bit and scratched. It took two caregivers to bring her to the dining room in the evenings.

Your employer should take care of medical and any time off you need to recover. I think a lawyer's input would be very helpful making choices in how to proceed.

Take care of yourself.

My grandfather was kicked out of two total care places for violence (and he was a big old dude) as he lost his executive function, and could not hide what a sex addicted thug he was. If there are residents that staff needs to be protected from, and nothing is being done about it, yeah, a lawyer.

Since it is October, and scary seems to be prevalent, some of the favs of that genera would go well too.

That sounds terrible. I hope you took Kent's advice and saw a lawyer. You need to do what you can to protect yourself.
