Why, why, why?

I could wait until tomorrow to pick up my check.  But NOOOOOOO....we have a mandatory meeting with corporate at 1:00.  Bastards.

I could just pretend I didn't see the notice, but everyone knows I read every scrap of paper in that place.  Hell, I tell *management* about meetings.  There's no good way out of this.

We're doing MiL duty tonight.  I find the fact that Robin and John suddenly have a book club obligation highly suspect, but a couple of hours will salve my conscience.  And I made pie, so I can give her dessert while Kent explains Survivor to her (oy).

I tinkered with my apple ginger pie and added blackberries (they were 99 cents!  How could I not?).  The color is a tad off putting, but it tastes amazing.  And I have the good vanilla ice cream to go with.  So everything should be okay.  I've gotten through the 3 worst days in November, so I can be strong for other people again.

I finally finished that damned book about wine marketing.  I honestly thought it was a memoir (it said so).  Oy.  Have any of y'all finished a book with your teeth gritted, thinking "I WILL NOT LET YOU WIN."?  Yeah, it was like that.

A couple of my more astute co-irkers seemed surprised I was still reading the same book.  They're used to me going through 2-3 a month.  This thing damn near killed me.  I'm tempted to let it loose in the wild via one of the Little Free Libraries.  Then again, I could suggest it to Kent as his next bus stop read as punishment for making me read Dhalgren.

Don't let the pigtails and flowery scrubs fool you.  I'm mean.  ;)

Looks like we're going to have to reconfigure Thanksgiving.  The original plan was to have it at Robin's, and we were going to have a huge crew.  Rob says she just can't, and I *do* get that.  So it looks like we'll have Chirp (Kent's BFF.  Let the 'shine and shenanigans commence!), Santa Pete, and Lance.  NO MIL!!!!!  *happyhappyhappydance...blush...er, that was a tad rude, huh?*

I did a grocery run yesterday (yes, this is how I relax) and got a 20 pound turkey.  And I *think* almost everything I will need.  Yes, I am cooking for five, and 15 people could show up and I will STILL have enough food.  I blame Grandma Kraysk.  I first learned to cook by her side, and we were feeding 6-9 people every night.

I'm kind of excited.  Kent's going to try to move the big dinner to Friday, so it can also be his birthday bash.  Which means I can show off in the kitchen while the guys drink and act a fool.

And they ARE good at that.  ;)

Okay,,,time to go listen to corporate yammer.  Wish me luck

I loathe meetings. Such BS.

Mists of Avalon and the first Game of Thrones book both took me months to get through. I was too stubborn to give up. These days I would probably just walk away.

I hear ya on the book thing. If I get halfway through and struggle, I will grit my teeth and finish, no matter how long it takes. The fourth Game of Thrones book comes to mind.

occasional staff meetings are helpful. Random poorly advertised annoyingly timed ones on your day off are the worst. I hope you get paid. And fed.

I did get paid. However, corporate did not show up as threatened, the meeting started 20 minutes late and covered NOTHING, and we had queso and chips...which I can't eat. Feh.
