Snowpacalypse!

Okay, I take back all the sneering I did about the predicted snowfall.  We got our asses kicked.  I know six inches may not seem like a lot to to some of y'all, but it damn sure is here.

It started later than predicted, so I was able to get out to the store and back.  May all gods bless my cabbie, who waited for me to make a super speed run through the store and didn't gouge me on the fare (again, THIS is why I pay a little extra to use the same local company and eschew Uber and Lyft).  My only regret is the ABC store was closed, because this is the *perfect* weather for hot buttered rum.

They've cut hours back at work, and I am thankful for once.  There is no way we're getting out any time soon.  To be honest, I have my doubts about getting to work on Saturday.  Which could be problematic, because under our new executive director (yeah, management turnover AGAIN), even if I am physically unable to get there, it's my fault and I could lose my job immediately.

Given the way things have gone lately, I bet some people are *praying* I can't get in.  And, even if I can, it will probably be cabs both ways, both days  Sigh.  I'm getting really tired of paying for the privilege of working there.

I was actually planning on spending my time off looking for work.  Kinda hard to do when the state in under a state of emergency.  So I'm giving myself a pass, ditching the guilt (which is really, really hard to do, because I need to get off my ass and get the hell out of there),  and enjoying not having to go anywhere or do anything.  Except feed the birds, because those warblers go all Hitchcock if they see/hear us in the kitchen and don't make with the birdseed, especially in this weather.  Oh, and feed the spousebeast.

During my adventures in speed shopping yesterday, I picked up some frozen goodies that we never have...because, really, what's the point of having snow days if you eat like an adult?  And I haven't had pizza rolls in forever (cue the spousebeast:  "You won't eat cheese on pizza, but you'll eat these.  Is that one of those Gemini things, a born in southern California in the 70s thing, or just an Alicia thing?"  They're good, dude!  Don't question me!).  So lunch was pizza rolls (does anyone else dip theirs in ranch, or am I just married to a weirdo?) and binge watching the end of season six and first two episodes of season 7 of True Blood.  And then a serious winter's nap.  Didn't exactly suck...aside from the part where I slept so well and so deeply that I found myself making supper at 9:30.  But homemade chicken pot pie at that hour is perfectly normal, right?

Kent has declared that the ingredients for that and corn pudding need to be onhand at all times during the winter (no, I do NOT serve them together.  That's a bit heavy, even for me).  Which is why I found myself making and freezing pie dough at 7:30 this morning.  I am physically unable to sleep past 6am any more, so I might as well make the most of it.

But we really, really need a bigger freezer.  The one Kent got off craigslist lasted 48 hours before it died (I don't even want to go into that whole story, because it makes me so mad).  Now, granted, it makes for amazing yarn storage, but we really need a working freezer.  Weather like this makes me want to make All The Things!

I also want to make snow cream...but I'm not sure sweetened condensed milk and vanilla go well with cigarette butts and cat piss.  Ah, the joys of apartment life.

:o( That's ridiculous. What are you supposed to do if the taxis aren't running?

That's a damn good question. The buses *still* aren't running, so even if the taxis are running, I'll have to pay for one to get home, too. That's $26/day that I really can't afford.

I think I'm going to call the one first shift person who lives within walking distance of Happy Acres and *strongly* remind her that I have covered shifts for her in the past.

Enjoy your snow day and I hope that things will go well for your job hunting. It would seem like lots of places would love to have you come and work for them.

I can definitely relate to the feeling that the vultures are circling.

LOL! Yes, ranch dressing is a requirement for pizza rolls! Chicken pot pie sounds amazing too! It's freezing and snowy here today (it is Buffalo, NY after all) and comfort food is all I want.

6" of snow in one storm is a pretty big dumping and means a whole LOT of shoveling. it takes a lot longer to clear the streets from a 6 inch dumping than it does from only 1-2 inches.

I have not tried ranch with pizza rolls, but I like to eat them dipped in sour cream so its not that far off. why do you not eat pizza with cheese on it? its not pizza without cheese!

Plus it means 18" of heavy wet snow where the plow went by, which you have to shovel out of your driveway before it freezes into a solid wall.

I'm just not a big fan of most cheese. I *can* eat it on a pizza, but if I have the option not to, I don't.

Can we compare corn pudding recipes? I would also love to know how you make chicken pot pie.

I'll type it up the next time I make it, so I can get something close to amounts.

Sounds like a good time to have a snow day.

My work has similar attendance policies (which are now being enforced for the first time in years) which is bullshit. I hate when jobs don't take the safety of their employees into consideration.

I have been enjoying my "do nothing days" with Township 2, but nice weather is here, so it's back to work. UGH!!!!

This job sounds very unreasonable when it comes to attendance. Not every one has an easy way or commute in.

Enjoy your time off and hope you will locate a good freezer.

Y'all got more snow in NC than I did in MA. My mom was indignant. I...am sore from shoveling.
